Multiple Poison Ivy Ankle Rash With Bubbles

(CLICK IMAGE TO SEE IT LARGER)

Another way the ankles get such nasty rashes is that poison ivy (and California’s poison oak) often grow as long ground vines.

So you can catch one on your ankle and have it saw into your skin as you trip over it. You also scrape both your skin and you scrape the vine, which unleashes lots of urushiol, the plant oil that causes the rash.

Watch out for ground vines when you are out walking.
