Fall Poison Ivy with Truck

There are a few things to take note of in this photo:

1. All the green leaves and berries close to the camera ARE poison ivy.

2. All the bright red leaves closer to the road ARE ALSO poison ivy.

Poison ivy lives on nearly every roadside in the eastern part of the United States.

It loves the sunlight it finds there, and birds drop the seeds there when they hang out on the wires overhead.

Here is yet another example of how poison ivy reveals itself in the fall. We have likely driven by this vine growing on a fence many times. But because the poison ivy turned such great yellow, orange, and red – we noticed it.

In spite of its generally tough-guy attitude, poison ivy is one of the first plants to give up and turn colors in the fall. Which makes early fall a great time to look for it. Often you can find trees, walls, or the ground itself covered with bright red, orange and yellow leaves.
