Building Coddles Spring Poison Ivy!

poison ivy in corner of building

This photo, taken on April 14th in Bedford, Massachusetts, shows a poison ivy vine that is way ahead of most of the poison ivy here in New England. Most other poison ivy had just shown the tiniest of red leaf buds at this date.

This vine is growing in a sunny corner of a brick buildilng, out of the wind, and protected and warmed by the builidng. Plus, the craggy brick wall provide a perfect climbng surface for the root hairs to cling to.

Whenever I spot a vine growing up a wall, in the country or city, I always look closer to see if it is good old poison ivy.
