Another Poison Ivy Fence Monster

Poison Ivy Fence Monster

Driving along a suburban road here in Massachusetts, I noticed this nasty poison ivy infestation on a wooden fence.

Notice how poison ivy grows on walls and fences: mostly straight upwards in an unruly mess. Other vines, like Virgina creeper grow in a more orderly fashion, making nice neat wall coverings.

And when poison ivy gets to the top of a fence, unlike many other vines, it doesn't give up: it starts reaching further upward and outward with woody branches, looking for sunlight and another place to grab hold of.

And of course, this fence has the added insult of spray paint graffiti. One hopes the kids with the spray paint might have gotten a nice poison rash...
